M is for Malice
by Sue Grafton

What keeps readers coming back again, and again, to the 'Alphabet' series of mysteries by Sue Grafton? One of the reasons is the innate quirkiness of Grafton's female detective, Kinsey Millhone.

Kinsey is tough, hard drinking and self deprecating. She's also vulnerable and always seems to be getting herself into jams as she unravels mysteries in Santa Teresa, California.

In M Is For Malice, Kinsey is hired by a wealthy family to find out what happened to the family's 'black sheep', Guy. It seems that Guy was kicked out of the house 18 years earlier and now he needs to be found in order to settle the estate of his father.

The family is, of course, more interested in finding Guy to deepen their own pockets. No cozy family reunions are being planned by this den of vipers. When the prodigal son does turn up he is promptly murdered and now Kinsey must discover which of the family members is the killer.
