Ruth Kettering may have sparkling jewels and money to burn but they haven't brought her happiness. She is torn between a loveless marriage and a demanding lover. Soon she won't have to choose. She will be brutally strangled before the train reaches its final destination.

The most likely suspect appears to be her unfaithful husband. After all, there has been talk of a divorce and he is known to be a womanizer who married Ruth only for her fortune. However, there are other suspects at every turn. Mrs. Kettering's maid might have killed her mistress and stolen a fabulous jewel. Maybe Ruth was killed be her own lover in a fit of rage and jealousy? Or perhaps, another young woman who was also riding on the Blue Train is the real killer?

Can Poirot stay on track long enough to solve this curious case?
