While on holiday in the Holy Land, Hercule Poirot overhears an ominous conversation, "You see, don't you, that she's got to be killed?"
M. Poirot just can't seem to take a vacation without attracting murder, can he? Before you read too many pages, murder steps in to take the spotlight. The dark night sky and mysterious atmosphere of the ancient cities, bustling marketplaces and harsh desert landscape adds to the suspense as Poirot labors to discovers who killed the obnoxiously cruel Mrs. Boynton.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Boynton's entire family seems to have wished her dead. Who could have killed the family matriarch? Her daughter, Ginevra? Her stepchildren, Raymond, Carol and Lennox? They all are relieved that their mother is gone, but did they hate her enough to kill?
Appointment with Death found new life in 1988 when it was translated onto the silver screen starring rotund actor, Peter Ustinov, as Poirot and the lithe, and always lovely, Lauren Bacall as the murder victim, Mrs. Boynton. Supporting parts were given to Carrie Fisher, David Soul, Hayley Mills, Piper Laurie, and Sir John Gielgud.
