Caruso brings the same brooding intensity to his role as Horatio Caine that he did to John Kelly in N.Y.P.D. Blue. His character spouts sardonic one-liners as he ponders each corpse through the darkened lenses of his oh-so-hip Silhouette Titanium sunglasses.

Caine is a former bomb squad officer and homicide detective who covers the backs of his forensic team and takes pride in the reputation of the unit. Despite his work in the lab where his expertise in arson often is essential to solving crimes, Caine is still the tough street cop. He carries a gun and doesn't hesitate to use it.

Caruso has said that his portrayal of CSI supervisor, Horatio Caine, is more like his own alter ego than people might think. Well, we're not sure about real life mixing with tv life on the small screen but the legions of fans who won't miss a Monday night without their dose CSI must know that murder goes down as smoothly as a martini in Miami.
