At what should have been one of the happiest moments of her life with her son by her side and a new baby to love, Anna Nicole Smith had to endure an unthinkable tragedy ... the death of her beloved son. Anna’s grief at the mysterious and sudden death of her son was so intense that she couldn’t bring herself to attend Daniel's memorial service. Anna Nicole's Bahamian attorney, Michael Scott, described her as "overwhelmed" by grief. "She's trying to come to grips with the depths of her despair. The devastation and grief over Daniel's sudden death coupled with the sedation has been so extreme that Anna Nicole experienced memory loss of the event." According to attorney Scott, Anna Nicole was so distraught at the loss of Daniel that she refused to leave his side and it was necessary to sedate her in order to check her out of the hospital.

Daniel Smith was buried in New Providence, Bahamas, on October 7, 2006 and immediately questions and suspicions swirled about his passing. How could a young man in good physical shape and known to resist taking any drugs have died so suddenly and under such suspicious circumstances? The only persons known to have been in the hospital room for any length of time were Daniel, Anna Nicole Smith, Anna' newborn baby, and Howard K. Stern.

On February 8, 2007, just five months after the birth of her daughter and death of her son, Anna Nicole Smith died in room 607 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. Anna had eerily succumbed to a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs ... just like her son, Daniel Smith. Michael Von Zamft, an assistant state attorney in Miami familiar with the investigation into the deaths of Anna Nicole and Daniel Smith reported: "There is a lot here that is questionable. The son dies; she dies. ... and Stern was around at both times."
