Jerry Bruckheimer:
Mr. Blockbuster

Jerry Bruckheimer has proven again and again that he has more than the Midas Touch. He has the Magic Touch when it comes to producing the mega hit movies that have earned him the crown as ‘Mr. Blockbuster' in Hollywood.

A native of Detroit, Bruckheimer studied psychology at University of Arizona but his heart was always set on the Silver Screen. An avid film fan from childhood, he moved to NYC for a stint at an ad agency before following his dreams to California to pursue a career producing films in Hollywood.

By 1975, Bruckheimer was making a name for himself with the studios and landed the spot of producer for a revival of the Raymond Chandler classic, Farewell, My Lovely. The noir-ish result was a modest success at the box office but earned critical acclaim for an aging Robert Mitchum as gumshoe Philip Marlowe and raves for the enigmatically beautiful Charlotte Rampling in the role of Helen Grayle.

Co-producing for Paramount with partner, Don Simpson, Bruckheimer's first blockbuster came in 1983 with Flashdance. Building on that surprise box office musical smash hit (who but Bruckheimer would have thought rebellious teenagers dancing in a barn would bring in big bucks?), his success seemed unstoppable. Bruckheimer and Simpson quickly earned kudos producing a string of the most popular action flicks of the ‘80's and '90's including Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, Days of Thunder and The Rock. More
